Nicaragua Needs a Song. Documentary screening, discussion and concert with Luis Enrique Mejía Godoy

Thursday 12 November 2026 - 18.30
Salón de actos Indautxu, Indautxu Kalea, Bilbao, Spain
Organización: Ayuntamiento de Bilbao. Colaboración: Euskal Fondoa y eLankidetza

During the session, the documentary ‘Nicaragua necesita una canción’ will be screened, directed by Miquel Carrillo, featuring the testimony of Nicaraguan musician Luis Enrique Mejía Godoy, one of the most recognised voices of socially engaged song and of Central America’s cultural and political life. From exile, the artist reflects on the Sandinista revolution, the repression suffered by many musicians and activists, and the role of music as a space of resistance and hope.

After the screening, there will be a discussion with the director, Miquel Carrillo, and Luis Enrique Mejía Godoy, offering an opportunity to explore in greater depth the situation in Nicaragua and the role that culture and artistic creation can play in the face of rights violations and experiences of exile. The event will conclude with Luis Enrique Mejía Godoy’s concert ‘Un pueblo en mi voz’.
