Conference “against Oblivion: Victims of Francoism and Western Sahara”

The conference “Against Oblivion. Victims of Francoism and Western Sahara”, which will take place in Bilbao on November 19th, aims to encourage social organizations, the academic community, institutions, and political parties to continue deepening the clarification of truth and the pursuit of justice for the Sahrawi people.

The conference is organized by the Hegoa Institute (EHU), Euskal Fondoa, and the Sahrawi Delegation in the Basque Country, with the collaboration of the Bilbao City Council. It is part of the tenth edition of the European Days of Local Solidarity, an initiative promoted by the European Union through Platforma.

This event, which will take place from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Itsasmuseum in Bilbao, will be attended by representatives of Sahrawi organizations such as the Association of Families of Sahrawi Prisoners and Disappeared Persons (AFAPREDESA) and the Association of Families and Friends of Basiri (AFAB); jurists, researchers; journalists, and representatives of various political parties and the event’s organizing institutions. Representatives of other groups of victims of Francoism, such as Martxoak 3 elkartea, and individuals involved in the Argentine lawsuit against Francoist crimes will also participate.

This event will be an opportunity to present the research “Sahrawis: The Other Victims of Francoism and Post-Francoism.” Memory, Lack of Memory, and Responsibilities of the Spanish State, conducted by Abdeslam Aomar Lahsen, president of AFAPREDESA.
